Congratulations to Southern Bear member Chris Faulk, as he won the title of 2008 Mr. Southeastern Bear Gathering last Saturday night at Lumberjacks Camping Resort, the official home campground of the New Southern Bears. Chris also won the 2008 Mr. SEBG Cub title. Pictured above with Chris (Center) is David Sheffield, 2007 Mr. SEBG Cub, Jimmy Logsdon, 2009 Mr. Georgia Cub. Matthew Akins, 2009 Mr. Georgia Bear, and Chris Tucker, 2008 Mr. Southern Cub. All four title holders served as judges for the event.

Halloween will soon be on us and we will be doing our annual “Dinner and a Haunted House” on Saturday, October 25th at 8:30 pm. We will be returning to Netherworld, the #1 rated haunted house in the nation, located on the access road at Jimmy Carter BLVD and I-85. AIDS Walk Atlanta is scheduled for Sunday, October 19, 2008. Last year Southern Bears walked with Jerusalem House, our charity of choice, and assisted them in raising monies for the annual budget. We are proud to be members of Team Jerusalem House once again this year. Their goal this year is an astronomical $40,000 – per their new Executive Director, Charlie Frew.  We can help Jerusalem House reach their goal in several ways. For those of you that can't take part in the AIDS Walk, Southern Bears will be accepting donations, either cash or check, ($25.00+ recommended) that goes directly to Jerusalem House.   If you want to walk with the Jerusalem House/Southern Bears team but don't have time to collect donations and/or pledges, you to can make a cash or check donation. Finally, you can download a sponsor form at: http://www.aidswalkatlanta.com/Document.Doc?id=14 and collect money from sponsors you know that are willing to sponsor you in the walk. ALL monies must be turned in on the day of the AIDS Walk. All monies pledged and donated to Jerusalem House will go directly to Jerusalem House, plus they will receive a percentage of monies donated to AIDS Walk Atlanta. The New Southern Bears is proud to announce Atlanta's newest bear run, Bear-A-Topia: The Land of Ursine Adventures.  The event will be held July 2 – 5, 2009.  The new website, www.bearatopia.com is up and running and is now located on Bear Guide on Bear411 under Atlanta, Georgia.

Congratulations Southern Bears on reaching a historic milestone.  We currently have more active member on the membership role than any time in the past 8 years.  Membership continues to grow as more and more people discover what the real Southern Bears is all about.
